Cookies In A Jar

A very easy recipe and a very good gift for any occasion. The recipient will love this and she/he might even share a few!

1 clean, clear  quart canning jar

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup white granulated sugar

1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking soda

Decorative ribbon, raffia and fabric etc.

A card or large plain sticker

Mix the salt and baking soda with the flour. This is your first, bottom layer. The next layer is the chocolate chips. Then add the white sugar and finally the brown sugar. You may need to give the jar a few taps to get your layers to settle

 On the card or large sticker, write the directions as follows;

Preheat the oven to 375 º

In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup of butter or margarine with 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Stir in the cookie mix until well blended. Use a small scoop and drop onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool on wire racks.

For the decoration, you can;

Use a canning jar lid and place a 9" round piece of fabric before you screw on the ring

Tie the neck of the jar with pretty ribbon or raffia

Paint the lids with acrylic paints
